The Siberian ibex is one of four species of even-toed ungulate mammals found in the Almaty State Nature Reserve. Within the reserve, it occurs at elevations ranging from 1,200 to 4,000 metres above sea level.
During summer, Siberian ibex move to higher elevations, where they inhabit rocky and rugged mountain slopes. In winter, when the snow cover becomes deep, they descend to lower elevations in search of food, sometimes reaching the foothills.
The Siberian ibex moves confidently across steep cliffs and rocky slopes and is remarkably well adapted to the harsh conditions of the high mountains.
These images were captured in 2026 by camera traps installed within the Almaty State Nature Reserve.
