On December 30, 2000, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed May 22 as the International Day for Biological Diversity.
One of the unique places preserving biodiversity is the Almaty State Nature Reserve.
Many rare species of plants and animals are protected within the reserve, helping to maintain the natural balance of the ecosystem. More than 960 plant species, 41 mammal species, and 177 bird species inhabit the reserve.
The Almaty State Nature Reserve is a unique natural area dedicated to preserving the rich natural heritage for future generations.
